John Allen, M.D.
John Allen, M.D., specializes in both general and bariatric surgery. He is board certified by the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Allen completed a fellowship in advanced gastroenterology, minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the University of South Carolina in Greenville, South Carolina, and his General Surgery Residency at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia. He received his medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine in Savannah, Georgia. He also is an alumni of Georgia Southern University in Statesboro, Georgia.
Dr. Allen’s fellowship training consisted of complex abdominal wall reconstruction, using advanced robotic techniques as well as complex bariatric training. He was named Outstanding Resident of the Year and awarded a Teachers Fellowship, which is only granted to two residents a year.
Dr. Allen is a member of the American College of Surgeons, Georgia Society of the American College of Surgeons, American Hernia Society, Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). His special interests include bariatric surgery, surgery for heartburn/reflux disease, minimally invasive hernia repair, and complex abdominal wall reconstruction.
