I realized there was a problem when I did not have the energy to play with and care for my grandchildren. I work for home and had difficulty getting up to do anything. I was extremely sedentary and found myself out of breath just going from bed to bathroom.
I chose to have weight loss surgery with Dr. Bassin in December 2020. I did it for myself in order to have a healthier lifestyle, as I was dealing with a lot of health issues with my kidneys. I also had diabetes, high blood pressure, sepsis and fatigue.
Now I have more energy, I can walk without becoming out of breath. I no longer have kidney issues, my diabetes is manageable, I take very few medications and I have energy for my grandchildren.
I can go on vacations now and enjoy fully them. We recently vacationed in Turkey and had no problem walking everywhere to see the sites.
Advice to someone considering surgery: If you have been trying to lose weight for a long time, this is something to do for yourself. This is a lifestyle change with a huge impact on eating habits resulting in positive results. If you exercise and eat the way you should, you will feel great and feel good about yourself. The gastric sleeve gives you the boost to get ahead of weight loss building confidence from within. It was the best thing I ever did for my physical and mental health.

I knew something had to change when my health started declining and I had difficulty performing everyday activities. I was borderline diabetic, low-energy and fatigued. I was also battling psoriatic arthritis and hypertension at stroke level.
My wife underwent weight loss surgery with Dr. Bassin less than a year before, so I decided to do the same in August 2021.
Now, I have more energy and I work in the yard all the time without difficulty. My hypertension is gone and my arthritis is manageable.
Advice to someone considering surgery: This is a change in lifestyle, forcing you into moderation. Once your body is healed, this is not as drastic a change as you may think, this is very doable. If you can get into a new routine like exercise and change your eating, you will do a lot better.
